Ballet Folklórico Estrella del Mar is one of those reasons.![]()

Since 2015, this talented group of boys and girls from St. Mary Star of the Sea School in West Lawn has brought vibrant, colorful, meaningful, joyful culture--delivered via traditional song and dance--to delighted and grateful audiences across the Midway area and beyond
BFEDM recently staged its annual showcase at Hubbard High School.
About 50 talented students, ranging from kindergarteners to St. Mary Star of the Sea alumni, wowed an appreciative audience of BFEDM families and other community members.![]()
The Southwest Chicago Post was granted full access (including backstage access) this year, to capture both the performance and the backstage preparations--and photographer Kelly White made the most of it. The best of her photos are posted below.
The boys and girls performed under the guidance of BFEDM co-founder and co-instructor Salvador Hernandez, as well as co-instructors Cynthia Ramirez, Jessica DeLuna and Michaela Hernandez.
This talented troupe is a gem of the community and a source of great pride for the entire community.
